A quote is what you send before the sale: it lays out what you'll deliver, at what price, and under what terms — but it has no fiscal effect. It isn't a CFDI (Mexico's official electronic invoice), it carries no invoice-use code or receiver tax regime, and it doesn't create a tax obligation for either side. It's a commercial proposal, not a receipt the SAT recognizes as income.

That distinction matters in practice. Invoice too early — before the customer has actually agreed — and if the deal changes afterward, you end up stamping a CFDI you then have to cancel, with all the paperwork that involves. Send a quote instead, and neither side has any tax obligation yet, so you can adjust the price, quantities, or terms as many times as the deal requires before any tax document exists. The quote is the step before the sale; the invoice is the step that actually creates one.

What makes a quote worth sending

• A validity date, so your customer knows exactly how long the price and terms you offered still stand, and you know when an old proposal no longer applies.
